TV or not TV

Saturday night my TV broke. I was changing channels and it stopped working. A big DVD logo came on and wouldn’t leave, no matter what I did. I pushed every button that could be pushed, unplugged it and plugged it in again, turned it all off, then back on. Nothing would rid my screen of the dreaded DVD logo. I called Comcast, and after waiting on hold twice, because I was cut off the first time, for 15 minutes then 20 minutes, I got a technician who could hardly speak the language. I had to ask him sometimes 3 times to repeat what he’d said. Even then I wasn’t sure if he’d got it right. He asked me a question which I could not understand then had him arrange a visit from a service person. That’s going to cost me an arm and a leg, but hopefully the problem will be fixed. Going around and around with this representative whom I can’t understand would be a no go. I suspect it’s the remote that’s the issue. I replaced the batteries in that too, but no deal. The TV goes on and off, so I know it’s not the TV. But what do I know.

So, I have been about two days now without any television. So far it’s been okay. I’d like to get of Comcast altogether, but that would signal the end of my internet access because there’s no other provider that serves this area. Besides movies, I also like TV for sports, weather, and PBS. We’ll see.

While I waiting on hold all those minutes, I got read to me an ad for Comcast attempting to educate me on the measures Comcast was taking to make my service more convenient. Baloney. If they want to make their service more convenient, they could lower the cost. Or better yet, have the president of the whole company come out here and fix my TV immediately. I’m not waiting by the door for him to show up.
