The Way Forward

I’ve been working so hard on finishing my novel that I didn’t think so much about what comes next. Well a simple list making session ended all those insecurities. I have have at least 3 novels, 10 plays, a group of about 12 short stories I want to get put together, a book on the Curtis Quartet which is the next up, and a whole bunch of poems I want to collect into one volume. I also need to update my website to reflect accomplishments over the past year.

I also have to put into use my new mop and pail. My old pail broke—the handle pulled out and the only way to use it was to pick it up and carry it by the bottom, which invited me tripping and spilling a couple of gallons of water over my apartment. I didn’t want that, and besides my mop had broken and the pail I had wouldn’t fit it. The bullet was bitten when the guy came to check our my stink bug situation. He said, “Let’s see what’s under your stove. I shuddered as he was pulling it out because I know I had not touched under the stove since I moved in here 7 years ago. Sure enough, it was embarrassingly squalid under there, and my attempt to get it clean with a broom went only so far. That necessitated my trip to the hardware store. I certainly would rather write than buy mops and pail.

I also have a book I need to read, Talk (2018) , by Elizabeth Stokoe. It's about conversation and words, what they mean, what impact they have, and what kinds of words are impactful, and how they do it. I have to read it before I start my new play, but I have to get my novel done before I can spend time on it. It goes on and on.
