I still think I’m a pretty good playwright
The play, Checkmate, on which I worked so hard, missed the cut. Even Tiger Woods didn’t make every cut. It was based on my own life and when the knife came it penetrated deep into my heart. I’ve been through a bad patch but I think I’m through the worst of it. I intend to do a table read in the fall. I don’t think it’s a good use of my time now because we’re in the summer and it’s hard to get around and most actors are pretty much taken by other plays or have jobs. So, after Labor Day I’m going to pick it up.
There’s been another minor blow to my ego. A friend of mine was organizing a series of plays in Provincetown, and he never said boo to me about it. But, rather than let it do to me what the other rejection did, I’m trying to ignore it.
In the meantime, I’ve gotten a good reception with Troubles in Henry’s Nose in Virginia. I been Johnny Appleseeding there, and one center is going to host it as part of its monthly film series, and two others are considering hosting it. So I’m pleased about that . I want as many seniors as possible to see my play. It won’t cost them anything and they’ll be moved by it.
