Read Aloud

Read Aloud has changed and greatly improved my writing. In the pre-Read Aloud days, I would write text, read it aloud, put it through spell check, then read it over to myself. My typing has done a deep dive the last few years, and glaucoma has greatly undermined my ability to find errors in my work. An “8” can look like a “3” or a “6.” A “7” can resemble a “9” depending on the resolution. The combination of “r” and “n” can look like an “m” in some fonts. And the beat goes on.

Read Aloud allows me to have the computer read to me in word. My ears do not suffer from glaucoma. I watch the text go by as Read Aloud reads it eliminates a lot of mistakes. It doesn’t point out grammatical and syntax errors, but Word does a lot of that. It doesn’t bring heaven to earth, but it has made a big difference. Now, even to write an e-mail, I compose in word, run whatever it is through Read Aloud, start my email, copy and paste the word text in, read it over, then send it. It works for me.
